Authentic forest-living is indifferent to human desires for luxury and extravagance. Instead it embodies nature’s modest style and elegance. Our dwellings are designed to honour this simplicity.
Using the backdrop of what nature has provided, our self-contained structures feature wrap-around decks encouraging residents to fully embrace the forest surroundings. This way of life can be described as "living out" (rather than "living in”). While all of our chalets are private, you may still spot your neighbours through the trees, human or otherwise.
Our chalet rooms and washroom are around 200ft2 combined and have been carefully formatted to give you the perfect space to recharge indoors. To encourage you to enjoy your spot in nature we have maximised the balcony area to include a large recycled timber table, folding seats and camping chairs for outdoor living.
Our villa huts are our next generation of chalets designed with individuality, adaptability and efficiency in mind. They feature an additional small indoor kitchenette with microwave and larger living-in area and air conditioning. We will be adding two new villa huts to our dwellings in August 2024 – be sure to book early!

Gibbon Retreat was the brain-child of nature lover and technology entrepreneur H.P. Lem. After spending decades working in Silicon Valley specializing in semi-conductors and patents, HP returned to Malaysia where he recognized that he was not alone in wanting a simpler, quieter and more sustainable way of living.
Born and raised in Bentong and a certified electrician, Jason has been manager and custodian since 2012. There is nothing he does not know about the retreat – from staff management and guest welfare to overseeing the upkeep of the Rock Forest property.
